You can enjoy staying in luxury tent and at the same time you can enjoy exploring beautiful nature around. Most of us dreamed to spend our weekend without worrying about office and business calls. The place where we can spend our time with family, friends or ourself! Yes, it is very important to spend some time alone. But how? Are there such places around Ahmedabad? Polo forest is the answer!

Recently I visited Polo forest second time after 3 years and this time my experience was totally different and amazing. As we decided to stay overnight in Polo forest, we spent lot of time doing nothing but just seating at dam site, river side in forest and walk around different nearby places. Let me share some brief information about Polo forest that will help you to plan your next trip.

Polo Forest Area

Polo forest is a beautiful eco-tourist place located near Abhapur village of Vijaynagar taluka; around 150 KM from Ahmedabad. The place is blessed with lot of natural resources, historical places, dam, and harnav river surrounded by mountain ranges. The perfect place for one day picnic!

Brief information about sightseeing in Polo Forest:

Harnav River and dam, Shiv temple at Sharneshwar, Lakhena temple, Jain temple are few of the places I visited in Polo forest during my two trips. As most of the places are located in nearby area, you can easily visit them in single day trip. If you love spending time in nature, you will find some decent places around polo forest. How to reach at Polo Forest

If you are travelling from Ahmedabad, the route to Polo forest is very well maintained and will hardly take 3 hours in private vehicle. Here is the detailed route to Polo forest:

Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar – Himmatnagar – Idar – Turn right from Vijaynagar cross road (take vijaynagar road) – Abhapur – Polo Forest

Places to Stay in Polo Forest

My first trip to polo forest was a single day trip organized by PCA (Photography Club Ahmedabad). I can’t recall the place we stayed but it was owned by successor of Maharaja Maharaj Vijay Wardhan Singh of Vijaynagar. If you know about this place, do share by comments.

This time, we stayed at Polo Camp Site, an amazing place located in heart of Polo forest which is owned and operated by Gujarat State Forest Department. Polo camp site has both AC / Non AC accommodations on twin sharing bases. They also serve delicious pure veg food but you will have to inform in advance. The rooms and amenities are very basic but worth to experience the night stays in forest area. If you are looking for luxury accommodation, I would suggest skipping night stay and plan only day trip to Polo forest.

To book this place, you will have to contact Gujarat State Forest Department at Himmatnagar. I will share contact details as soon as it is available to me.

Other helpful information

Wear trekking shoes and bring umbrella or rain coat if you are travelling in monsoon. Do bring your meal from home or you will have to get it prepared by prior order. You can easily get snacks, water bottles from local small shops.

For night stay journey, I strongly recommend bringing torch, candles, misquote repellent with you.

Conclusion:

I personally love visiting natural places and enjoy spending time clicking nature. If you are looking for such place, you will enjoy your trip to Polo Forest.

          To reach polo forest via bus, first you need to reach Idar and from where you can take shared vehicle to Abhapur. This is the only option as far as I know. The most economical place to stay is Polo camp site. Let me know if you still need any help.

        Yes, Polo Campsite offering delicious food for the guests stays there but you need to inform them in prior as they require time to prepare arrangement accordingly. The best thing is; inform the staff when you checkin and they will prepare food for you.

    We friends wish to go for a one day trip to polo forest from Ahmedabad using public transport. Since it will be on a festival day wanted to check if any special permission is required for the same from the forest department. Please share the relevant contact details.

    Most probably we will have stay facility at Idar. If possible, please also provide your suggestions on how should one plan the commuting using public transport. (Ahmedabad-idar-polo and return)

      Regarding to one day trip, i would recommend leaving early from Ahmedabad as it will take atleast 3 hours to reach there. Keep water and food with you as you won’t find any restaurant in Polo forest.

We are a group of Adventure lovers and undertake Trekking, Mountaineering and other adventure activities as a group of like minded people. We heard about Polo forest and decided to plan a 2 day program with a group of approx 50 people (all age) to Polo on 29th and 30th Nov, 2014.

    I would appreciate if you could share the contact no. of Gujarat State Forest Department at Himmatnagar. Can you also share more details about the place owned by Maharaja Maharaj Vijay Wardhan Singh of Vijaynagar.

    We prefer night stay in the forest if basic amenties and safety is available. We carry our own tents and sleeping bags and chef too.
