Polo Forest in Monsoon: Revisiting a Beautiful Travel Memory from 2017

Some destinations stay in our memories long after the journey is over. Polo Forest is one such place for me. Back in 2017, I published a detailed travel story about my visit to Polo Forest on TheIndia. At that time, I described it as a peaceful weekend retreat surrounded by forests, hills, rivers and historic temple ruins.

Years later, the arrival of the monsoon reminded me of that journey again.

A Place That Changes with the Rain

Polo Forest is beautiful throughout the year, but the monsoon gives it a completely different character. The dry landscape slowly turns green. The hills become covered with vegetation, streams begin to flow, clouds hover over the forest and the entire route feels fresh and alive. Even the drive towards Polo Forest becomes an enjoyable part of the experience. Located near Vijaynagar in North Gujarat, Polo Forest is approximately 150 kilometres from Ahmedabad. The forest surrounds the Harnav River and contains the remains of historic Hindu and Jain temples. For someone living in Ahmedabad, it is one of those destinations where a relatively short road trip can make you feel far away from city life.

What I Still Remember About Polo Forest

What I remember most is not one particular attraction. It is the overall atmosphere of the place. The narrow roads passing through green surroundings, the sound of flowing water, the ancient structures hidden among trees and the peaceful feeling of being close to nature made the journey memorable. The old temple ruins add another layer to the experience. They quietly remind visitors that Polo Forest is not only a natural destination but also a place with centuries of history. According to Gujarat Tourism, the ancient Polo settlement developed around the Harnav River and served as an important gateway between Gujarat and Rajasthan. The surrounding forest becomes especially lush after the monsoon rains.

Why I Am Sharing This Story Again

Travel content often focuses on discovering new places. But sometimes, revisiting an old journey can be equally meaningful. Looking back at it today reminds me how certain destinations remain relevant even after many years. The roads may improve. More travellers may discover the place. Facilities may change. But the basic attraction of Polo Forest remains the same: greenery, history, silence and a refreshing break from everyday routine.

Avoid entering fast-flowing water, wear footwear suitable for wet and slippery surfaces and help protect the forest by carrying your waste back with you.

Polo Forest gave me a wonderful travel memories during my 3-4 trips in last few years. With the monsoon bringing Gujarat’s landscapes back to life, this felt like the perfect time to remember that journey and share it once again.
